Sort, Staple, Clip

Do you have a pile of inserts that need clipping?  You’re not alone.  Coupons tend to pile up at my house too.  There are some ways you can reduce your sorting and clipping time considerably.  The key to good coupon shopping is having multiple coupons when you’re ready to buy.  That leads to mini piles of inserts waiting for your time and patience.

Step #1:  Sort inserts by date.   Split out the pages inside and stack them on top of each other.  When you immediately sort out your coupons where like offers are together it will save you time and aggravation later.

Step #2 Staple.  Yes, stapling the neatly sorted stacks allows you to line up all the dotted lines.  Stack no more than 12 pages that are alike. The stapler will easily hook 12 together, but more than 12 will start to lose some of the sheets.

Place the staple right on the picture of the product.  We do not want the staple near the expiration date or the barcode.  Those must be visible to the cashier.  The picture is a good place for the staple.

Step #3 Cut.  Now with all the coupons lined up, cut your stapled pages.  This will keep you from clipping for hours.  Cut about 1/4” around each coupon so that you have plenty of space and do not accidentally clip off part of a bar code or expiration date.   Pair of good scissors will do the job.

Step #4 Purge.  Time to create a special section for all your coupons that you will not use.  Purge those immediately to your coupon club or swap board.  If you won’t use it, maybe someone else will.  This is how you get all those extra coupons you are looking to find.

Step #5  Organize.  Now put your nice packets of coupons in your coupon organizer.  If you’re short on time, always have a way to put coupons in a category, like Frozen to be sorted more specifically when you have more time.  Limit yourself to  20 general categories to limit your sorting time.
