6 Crazy Simple Steps to Saving on Groceries

Saving money on groceries does not happen at the store.  Saving money happens before you get to the store.  Here are six steps to help you be fully prepared to maximize your savings.

1.  Make your grocery list.  You list should include all the regular  items your family craves, and the items you will need to make meals this week.  The items you have on your list each week are considered your HOT LIST items.  These should be items you trade coupons for on message boards and ask for from manufacturers direct.

2.  Look at the weekly ad.  Its easy to find the weekly ad, it's here every week.  You just look it over for those items that are on sale that will make meal planning easy and save you some money.  There are about 175 items on sale each week and we list the full ad on My County Market and the coupon match up on County Market Coupon News.

3.  Go through your clipped coupons.   If you see spaghetti sauce on sale, it may be time to redeem that pasta coupon.  Look for good meal planning matches to your shopping list and the weekly sale.

4.  Open up your apps.  The  My County Market App  will have 30-40 items where you can make matches and save additional money.  Plus it has the coupon wallet feature where you can see your savings adding up.  Next, open   Ibotta app for rebates  it has additional money you can use on top of manufacturer's coupons.

5.  Use the Penny Pincher booklet!  It's full of deals that also offer stacked savings.  These are County Market store coupons so you can use this coupon and a manufactuer's coupon on the same product.  Penny Pincher coupon booklets are delivered inside your month price shopper in your mailbox.

6.  Pack up your coupon stash and bring it along.  You may find non advertised deals in store and want to make a last minute addition to your cart.  If your coupon organizer is at home, you'll miss out on a deal. It never hurts to be fully prepared.

Coupon Revival

When you've been couponing for many years, it's important to take a beat and remember why you started couponing in the first place.  For me it was easy.  I had my third child and decided to stay home and mom ful time.  That put an immediate crunch on our household.  I'll never forget realizing how much everyday things cost!

Each month I hear from brand new coupon shoppers who have incurred some sort of financial change in their lives.  Some lose a job, some have more kids, some need to cut expenses just temporarily because of medical bills or to buy a new car.  Whatever your reason was for starting to coupon shop, chances are those are not the same reasons you coupon shop today.

Once you achieved your first goal of "Saving $100 this month" or "Making just one more extra car payment" then you were hooked.  Saving money is just as important as earning money.  No matter how much your household brings in, it matters how much is left over for the things you want in life.  These goals should be changing as you mature as a saver.  What is your next coupon goal?

It's time to refreshen your skills!  The first step is to review your coupon sources.  Way back when, you probably picked up a Sunday paper subscription.  Do you still get newspaper coupons weekly?  Is there a way to get multiple copies of inserts and get them for free?  Have your neighbors or co workers changed since you first started asking for their left over coupon inserts?  It may be time to rethink your insert pipe line. recall your local paper, ask for Sunday papers the following week, can you get a deal?

How about printing coupons?  When you started you may have been a regular at printing all of the easy coupons from coupons.com  what about now?  Is it part of your routine?  Try to tie your coupon habit to something you do now.  If you watch a particular TV show each week, print coupons just before and clip them during.  Try setting a timer on your computer so that you can print coupons while updating your Facebook or twitter feeds.

Do you need a new coupon organizer?  You have been using the one you have for several years.  Maybe it's time to reorganize the tabs or create a new category for pets, household, or retail store coupons.  Expand your savings plans to include every retailer you shop.

It's November, and this is a good time to review how much you've saved this year, and how much you need to squeak into your savings column to reach your goals.  It's also a great time to just review your coupon habits and tighten them up a bit. Good luck and happy savings!

5 Steps to Stress Free Thanksgiving

My home has played host to our family Thanksgiving meals for the past several years.  Those first few years were very hectic.  I remember trying to clean, cook, and decorate until it was exhausting.  The best way to handle all of these extra tasks is to split them up.  Here are 5tips to remove stress for your to do list:

1.  Delegate!  You do not need to do everything.  It doesn't matter if it's cleaning the silverware or washing up the glasses.  Share the burden by assigning some tasks to other family members.

2.  Start early.  I start preparing little bits at a time as soon as November arrives.  You can clean up the turkey roaster, pull out the serveware and dust the baseboards in the dining room now.  Do not try to clean the entire house the same week of Thanksgiving.

3.  Pick your menu early.  The sooner you know which classic dishes and which new dishes you are going to prepare, the quicker you can make your shopping list and gather all your savings tools.  You can go ahead and split your shopping into 3 sections.  Bake ahead, non perishables, and fresh ingredients.  This will allow you to split your shopping trip into budgetable amounts.

4.  Clear spaces.  It will help to clear any clutter off countertops, tables and in your fridge and freezer before you begin your grocery shopping.  You may consider cleaning out a summer cooler for extra items if space is an issue.

5.  Plan Fun.  A big part of spending Thanksgiving with my family includes baking dinner rolls with Jimmy, baking pies with Avry and Katy.  My husband and I have a glass of wine together before the guests arrive.  We have small traditions, that make all the work fun.  Be sure to plan time into your schedule for some kitchen chat and memory making.

The Apps You Absolutely Need Now

Do you want to save money at the grocery store?  Really save money? Like consistently save $20 a week?  Or $100 in a month's time?  Or would you like to save more than $1000 real dollars in a year?  If you do, then you need to establish a new savings habit. It starts by having all the necessary tools and apps.

It will take about 90 days to get to a point where you always remember to check your phone app before going to the grocery store.  We have spending habits that work the same as our savings habits.  Yet, this is the future of coupon clipping.  It's time to  serious about saving money with your phone and computer.  You will need to have your apps loaded and clipped so you can redeem all your digital dollars.

Yo may be wondering if it's worth it.  It is worth it!  There are hundreds of offers on apps like Ibotta for products you purchase each week.  HUNDREDS.  Your My County Market App has items that are not commonly found on traditional coupon sites.  Look for produce coupons on both apps. I've saved on tomatoes, bananas, even garlic.  I have been buying salad kits for the family weekly off the County Market app. You definitely can save extra money with the apps, no doubt about it.

You'll need to establish this habit so that it becomes part of your routine.  To do this, you need to connect it with another habit you already have established.  For example, is there a habit you have on Wednesday that allows you a few minutes to prep your phone?  For me, it's Wednesday morning after the kids are set to school.  I have a window of about 20 minutes before my day begins.  This is when I make a cup of coffee and check my daily to do list.  This is already my routine, so I'm going to tie this new behavior to an old one.

After coffee, and with my to do list review, I will click on the apps and put digital coupons in my wallet.  It will only take a couple minutes, but it will be set before I reach the store.  That's it!  It's on Wednesday, the first day of shopping week, and when offers are renewed.  It fits with my already scheduled routine.  And, it will save me money and become a new habit.

Wednesday is your best bet for establishing a new savings habit.  Try to find an already existing habit on this day you do every week.  Look for habits like picking up  kids from soccer practice, lunch plans, favorite TV show schedule.  Before you know it, your app shopping will be second nature.

On Board Credit --Guaranteed

How to Use Coupon Boards
One of the best things you can do to save yourself both time and money is to learn to use the free online coupon trading boards.  I use them frequently.  This week I picked up some great meat rebate forms and some fresh chicken coupons.  To use the boards, you'll need to create an ID for yourself and learn the terminology.  It's easy!

Some of my favorite trading boards include:

There are many terms used in Couponing.  To follow message boards and conduct trades you will need to know them.  Here are a few:
· MIR is a Mail in Rebate.  It can be for a new product offering, a satisfaction guarantee, or an alcoholic based rebate.
· OYNO = On Your Next Order
· OYNSO = On Your Next Shopping Order (Catalina coupon)
· TMF = Try Me Free
· FAR = Free After Rebate
· BLINKIES = In Store Smart Source Coupons.  These come in the little box with a blinking light.  They have sensors to issue a coupon based on movement.
· BOGO/B1G1 = Buy One Get One
· CATALINA = Coupon printed at register after purchased
· CRT = Customer Receipt Tape.  Usually required when filing a rebate.  Must have the address of the store, and date issued to be accepted.

· FAR = Free After Rebate

· RAINCHECK= When an item is on sale, and they run out of stock, you can ask for a raincheck at customer service to lock in your price so that you do not miss out on the deal.
· SS= Smart Source (Newspaper Insert)
· STACKING = Using stores allow multiple use of coupons – manufacturer’s & store coupons or rebates.
