May Penny Pincher

Our May penny pincher books are out.  The reviews of the new booklet have been great.  People really like having more coupons, and they love the extended time periods for redemption.  Here are some of the things we've been hearing. 

1.  It's Double!  There are now two times as many coupons in the penny pincher booklet per month.  You have 48 coupons to use throughout the store.

2.  There are coupons valid each week of the month.  Half the booklet is good for the first two weeks of the month, half for the last half of the month.  This gives everyone a chance to hit the store and rack up some savings.  Even those folks with monthly pay periods.

3.  It is availabe at the store.  The mail service is not the best in rural areas for delivering the booklets, so now they are providing 1000's of them at customer service.  No more worrying if you forgot a coupon at home, or if it did not come in the mail. 

4.  There is a preview online.  You can look up the current month's penny pincher book anytime at mycountymarket.com  

5.  There are coupons on fresh foods included in the booklet.  You will find fresh foods from dairy, meat, and produce in the booklet in both sections.

6.  All these coupons are "Store" issued coupons and can be matched with a Manufacturer's coupon. you can match them with printable, app rebates, newspaper coupons, hang tags and tearpad coupnos, and you can match to the my county market app.

7.  These are much easier to cut and carry.  The smaller size fits in your hand, and in your coupon wallet easy.  These even fit in coupon binder sleeves.

How to Start Saving on Groceries

Savings habits are hard to establish. Hard like when you first decide to not order soft drinks in restaurants and order water to save a few dollars, or deciding to only fill your gas tank according to the gas app on your phone.  You will forget!  You'll be half way to filling your tank before you pull your phone out. Or your waitress will walk away to get your $2.56 drink before you can realize that for your family of 5, you just blew $13 on 60 ounces of "who cares".  


It will take about 90 days to get to a point where you always remember to check your phone app before going to the grocery store.  We have spending habits that work the same as our savings habits.  Yet, this is the future of coupon clipping.  It's time to  serious about saving money with your phone and computer.  You will need to have your apps loaded and clipped so you can redeem all your digital dollars.

Yo may be wondering if it's worth it.  It is worth it!  There are hundreds of offers on apps like Ibotta for products you purchase each week.  HUNDREDS.  Your My County Market App has items that are not commonly found on traditional coupon sites.  Look for produce coupons on both apps. I've saved on tomatoes, bananas, even garlic.  I have been buying salad kits for the family weekly off the County Market app. You definitely can save extra money with the apps, no doubt about it.

You'll need to establish this habit so that it becomes part of your routine.  To do this, you need to connect it with another habit you already have established.  For example, is there a habit you have on Wednesday that allows you a few minutes to prep your phone?  For me, it's Wednesday morning after the kids are set to school.  I have a window of about 20 minutes before my day begins.  This is when I make a cup of coffee and check my daily to do list.  This is already my routine, so I'm going to tie this new behavior to an old one.

After coffee, and with my to do list review, I will click on the apps and put digital coupons in my wallet.  It will only take a couple minutes, but it will be set before I reach the store.  That's it!  It's on Wednesday, the first day of shopping week, and when offers are renewed.  It fits with my already scheduled routine.  And, it will save me money and become a new habit.   

Wednesday is your best bet for establishing a new savings habit.  Try to find an already existing habit on this day you do every week.  Look for habits like picking up  kids from soccer practice, lunch plans, favorite TV show schedule.  Before you know it, your app shopping will be second nature.

The New Pennies

The new penny pincher book has a lot of people relooking at pennies.  So many people that were not clipping the coupons have started with the new offers.  Many of our loyal penny shoppers have stepped up their savings game.  Personally, I love having the new options.

One of the questions I am getting is in regards to using multiple coupons.  This disclaimer is always on any store coupon, so that you can not combine another store coupon to the offer.  You can however add a manufacturer's coupon to your store penny pincher coupon.  County Market encourages you to make a coupon match!

There are several ways to make that coupon match. You can match a standard printable or newspaper manufacturer's coupon.  In each coupon book, there are easy matches to these standard coupons.  You can also match to phone app rebates, and mail in rebates.  Some of the best phone apps are found on MyCountyMarket.  You can usually pick up one or two off of Ibotta or  Checkout 51.

We're getting a lot of feedback about how easy it is to pick up penny pincher books at the stores.  Couponers are loving the fact that you can pick up an extra book at customer service.  You no longer have to worry if your booklet does not arrive in the mail.

Another big feature is that there are two sets of coupons in one book.  That is double the previous book count.  So with double the coupons available there are more choices for users.  Personally, I love the fact that we have two time periods to buy.  You no longer have to pick up all your offers in one weeek while you are shopping.  This allows you to plan out and space out your buys through the month.  I love the freedom of the new book!
