Catch Onto Coupons

2017 is here, and it's time to find ways to feed my family of five with healthier meals and snacks of high quality freshness  Many people do not know you can save money while buying fresh foods, healthy snacks and high quality organics  I do it all the time, and in the next year I plan to do even more  Join us as I share ways to save and be healthy with your grocery shopping.

1.  Use coupons!  There are websites for organic items.  Print these out on a regular basis and include them in your coupon stash.  Some of the best sites are:  Mambo SproutsSaving NaturallyOrganic DealsOrganicfoodcouponsHealthesavers,    You can also email companies direct and ask for coupons for products you wish to buy in 2016.

2.  Do some meal planning.  It helps when you know exactly what you will need this week to prepare meals and how you can best utilize the exact amounts your family wants.  Write it all down!  It's old fashioned, but it works. Writing your meal plan will keep you on track and help you sort out what you really need, versus the items you want.

3. Stop wasting food.  We over prepare many meals.  Take a look at your dinner table after your next meal. How much of the food is wasted?  If you only use half a jar of organic spaghetti sauce per meal, find a way to preserve the other half instead of fixing it all at once.  Your freezer is your friend.  Plus when you can use "Halves" of items you already have a meal planned for next week.

4.  Stock up on organic items when they are on sale.  It may seem simple, yet can save a bundle.  If you see your favorite brand of yogurt on sale, and it's shelf life lasts more than a week, buy it for the next few weeks.  You will see your savings add up.  All of a sudden you can find an additional $10 per week for pricey snack items like roasted almonds in your budget.

5.  Cut it up yourself.  If you want free range chicken, then do not pay extra for it already cut.   Get out your butcher knife and chop chop chop! The same applies to the produce department.  Celery and true peanut butter make a great health snack, but cut the celery sticks at home to save some money.

We'll be adding more ways to save and be healthier in 2016. These are the top 5 ways you can save and get your family fast tracked to a healthy and inexpensive new year.  Stay tuned to our blog all year.

Use Apps to Coupon Shop

There are so many ways to save money with your phone.  You can use gas apps to save per gallon every time you fill up.  You can use an app to check the latest prices of goods on ebay, and you can use an app to save money with coupons.   There are even many choices for coupon apps you can download.

There are two apps that are simple and easy to use every single time you shop at County Market.  These two are  Ibotta app for rebates  and My County Market App.  The rebate app and the coupon app work together.  You can use both (should they match up) on the purchase of one item.  Rebates are credited direct to the consumer's paypal account after you claim $20 in savings.  The County Market app is credited the next time you shop as a discount off your purchase.

The future of coupon savings are moving to phones.  You will quickly notice that the more you use apps, the more offers appear.  The apps are designed to predict your buying habits.  It will offer you items that pair well with your previous purchases.  It will continue to offer you deals on items you have purchased in the past.

Once you start picking up an extra $20 per week with apps, you can explore some other apps that are quite popular to save you money.  Here are some you should download and play with to see if it's a good fit for you.

Start by using an app that gives you all the sales circulars weekly.  Retale includes all the local circulars, including County Market.  Never miss a deal by not having a newspaper in hand!

Looking for more deals on groceries?  Checkout 51 is a shopping rebate program similar to Ibotta.

Raise takes saving money to the most basic level.  It's an app where you can purchase a gift card before checking out.  Saving 3-15% may seem small but over the course of a year, it can add to your savings total.  It adds to the savings outside of the grocery aisles.  You can pick up gift cards to TJ Maxx, Macy's, K Mart or Starbucks.

Are you doing some pharmacy shopping?  Walgreens and CVS are the top pharmacy shopping destinations for extreme couponers.  Favado is an app that lists the match ups for both each week.  It will match all physical, in store only and digital coupons.

Don't overlook something simple as Gas Buddy.  It will let you know if its worth an extra mile to save $6 on a fill up.  Updated by consumers, and confirmed by consumers it often will save you $.20 to $.35 per gallon on gas.

One more app for Circulars, Flipp.

One more price checking app this one for Amazon items, Price Jump.

There are thousands of apps.  Many have similar capabilities.  Be sure you pick one rebate app, one circulars app and a gas app.  Then no matter what, Use My County Market.  It's the only one with in store deals for our stores.

Put Your Pennies to Work

The most common way to save extra money, is to match up a sale item and a manufacturer’s coupon. However, if you can find a STORE issued coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon that match-it’s even better. This is why County Market’s Penny Pinchers make us special to coupon users.

Each month we issue a coupon booklet at County Market for items that are deeply discounted. It’s our monthly Penny Pincher booklet. We want you to find a manufacturer’s coupon to match. These booklets come out around the 3rd week of each month. They are delivered by direct mail. Your postal delivery person will be able to tell you which day the coupons are arriving to your mailbox.

Stores do not get lots of extra copies of the Penny Pincher booklets. Part of the contracts made with the vendors featured is that they issue all booklet by direct mail, and one per household. Likewise, your postal person is not allowed to hand you extra copies.  Neighbors become GOOD neighbors when they share their unwanted pennies!

When you use your Penny Pincher coupon, the deduction or price adjustment is scanned off of a store barcode. That will only happen for the number of items that the coupon allows. For example, if it says, Limit 2, but you buy 5, 2 will be discounted, the registers will automatically charge full price for the other 3 items. These coupon discounts are set PER TRANSACTION.

I’m often asked about the usage of multiple Penny Pinchers. Yes, if you shop another day, with a duplicate Penny Pincher, it will clear to your purchase without any problems. We do have a place in our stores for swapping coupons. So if you find that you really want to shop twice and use a penny pincher offer again, it will clear. This is not a secret, many of you know this. Our members will trade Pennies amongst themselves. I often want extra kids foods, and other members want foods I do not plan to buy. We are allowed to trade them at club, or place extra coupons in our swap bins.

The next step is finding a good Manufacturer’s match to the store coupon. Usually I find around 4 per month that make a good matches. . Be sure to take a look at our print N Save blog that comes out on Mondays. I often put links to penny pincher printables in that section.

Sometimes you’ll need to try a coupon and see if it works with the Penny Pincher offer. Often our penny pinchers will be an OPEN coupon offer. There is a big difference in using an open ended offer like, “Good on Johnsonville Meats” versus a closed offer like, “Good only on Johnsonville Chicken brats.” The County Market offer is for many Johnsonville types of sausages, including Chicken. By using both the MF Chicken offer, and the Store Open ended coupon, we stay correct and Legal.

However, if the offers were reversed, and the County Market offer was Closed, and only for the Chicken Variety, and we had a Pork Italian sausage MF closed coupon, we would not match and the offer would not work. The hardest part of couponing, is figuring out what the coupon writer intended! If an offer is good on over 50 products, we will never know if it will work until we scan it.

My personal advice is to try it and see. The worst case scenario is that you will be told, “Sorry this coupon does not apply to this product.” No harm in that.

Penny Pinchers set us apart from other grocery stores. We offer more than just sales discounts each week, we offer true deep savings designed to allow a coupon user to really maximize your savings potential. Look for pennies every month in your mail.

Click It, Don't Clip It

Savings habits are hard to establish. Hard like when you first decide to not order soft drinks in restaurants and order water to save a few dollars, or deciding to only fill your gas tank according to the gas app on your phone.  You will forget!  You'll be half way to filling your tank before you pull your phone out. Or your waitress will walk away to get your $2.56 drink before you can realize that for your family of 5, you just blew $13 on 60 ounces of "who cares".

It will take about 90 days to get to a point where you always remember to check your phone app before going to the grocery store.  We have spending habits that work the same as our savings habits.Yet, this is the future of coupon clipping.  It's time to  serious about saving money with your phone and computer.  You will need to have your apps loaded and clipped so you can redeem all your digital dollars.

Yo may be wondering if it's worth it.  It is worth it!  There are hundreds of offers on apps like Ibotta for products you purchase each week.  HUNDREDS.  Your My County Market App has items that are not commonly found on traditional coupon sites.  Look for produce coupons on both apps. I've saved on tomatoes, bananas, even garlic.  I have been buying salad kits for the family weekly off the County Market app. You definitely can save extra money with the apps, no doubt about it.

You'll need to establish this habit so that it becomes part of your routine.  To do this, you need to connect it with another habit you already have established.  For example, is there a habit you have on Wednesday that allows you a few minutes to prep your phone?  For me, it's Wednesday morning after the kids are set to school.  I have a window of about 20 minutes before my day begins.  This is when I make a cup of coffee and check my daily to do list.  This is already my routine, so I'm going to tie this new behavior to an old one.

After coffee, and with my to do list review, I will click on the apps and put digital coupons in my wallet.  It will only take a couple minutes, but it will be set before I reach the store.  That's it!  It's on Wednesday, the first day of shopping week, and when offers are renewed.  It fits with my already scheduled routine.  And, it will save me money and become a new habit.

Wednesday is your best bet for establishing a new savings habit.  Try to find an already existing habit on this day you do every week.  Look for habits like picking up  kids from soccer practice, lunch plans, favorite TV show schedule.  Before you know it, your app shopping will be second nature.

Image result for my county market app smartphone This past weekend I was looking for deals on my phone and found the best deals on My County Market App.  I picked up several dollars with just a simple click.  $1 on CM brand sugar, $1 on CM bottled water, $1 on Essential Everyday cereal.  You get the idea.  It's a simple app to use.  You get offers on products you normally buy, and several items you can consider buying.  Click the ones you want and they are automatically applied to your max card. To get rolling with extra app coupons follow these steps:

1.  Download the My County Market App onto your phone.
2.  It will ask you to confirm your email and Max card.  You can just snap a pic of your max card when it asks you for it.  Be sure these are correct!  It's how they ties to your max card shopping.
3.  Click some offers and have them in your virtual wallet.
4.  Shop at the store and pick up the items in your virtual shopping list.
Image result for my county market max card
5.  Get money!  As you buy things, then scan your max card it automatically will post to your account.  Next time you shop, you'll have $dollars off your order to redeem from your phone.

It's really easy to do.  I love the fact that I can pick up name brand coupons that are not available on coupons.com or smartsource, like Pepsi, Frito Lay, Campbells, and County Market store brand staples.

Image result for ibottaI picked up $10 just for signing up with Ibotta on my phone.  Boom!  Direct to my paypal account.  Then I picked up some Pillsbury offers, $.50 on any bread, $.25 on any bananas, and $1 on milk,  for extra this week.  These are in addition to your weekly totals, and YES you can still add printed or newspaper coupons to your order.  How cool is that?

I want to hear back from you this week.  Use your apps and share on Facebook how much you have saved.  Good Luck!
