Thrifty Shoppers Click It

When it comes to saving money on your groceries, there's an app for that!  Most stores these days have apps that give you directions to local stores, or hours of operation.  But to actually save money with an app, you'll need the good ones.  Your phone can be full of apps that save you money.  Yet most people do not have the 5 best apps loaded and ready to go at any time.  These 5 will save you money and are easy to use.

1.   My County Market App It just makes sense right?  You shop at the store, why no use their app?  It has County Market's store brand coupons you can use each week, and coupons for brands not found on other apps like Pepsi, Frito and Produce.  As you select the offers you want, the savings are accumulated in the app when you scan your Max Card at the checkout lane.  Simple and it saves you real money.

2.  Ibotta app for rebates The rebate app and the coupon app work together.  You can use both (should they match up) on the purchase of one item.  Rebates are credited direct to the consumer's paypal account after you claim $20 in savings. Once you download this app, it will ask which store you wish to shop, click on County Market, and start gathering up the items you want to save money with.  That's it. Just select them.  Once you check out, it will auto read your Max Card and your money is added to your account. Simple.

3.  Retale App.   Start by using an app that gives you all the sales circulars weekly.   Retale includes all the local circulars, including County Market.  Never miss a deal by not having a newspaper in hand!

4.  Gas Buddy.     Don't overlook something simple as Gas Buddy.  It will let you know if its worth an extra mile to save $6 on a fill up.  Updated by consumers, and confirmed by consumers it often will save you $.20 to $.35 per gallon on gas.  Here's the kicker-you already have $.25 off gas coupon from County Market right?  Now use it at the best possible time.

5.  Checkout 51. It's very similar to Ibotta, but has slightly different offers.  It works the same way, but you take a photo of your receipt upon checkout.

These money savers can add some serious bucks to your year end savings.  Why wait?  Load them onto your phone now.  They are FREE!

Holiday to Holiday Stock Ups with Coupons

There are some weeks during the year that it makes sense to coupon more.  These weeks are the ones where the store has huge sales.  Holiday weeks are the best!  During holiday weeks, the store will run deep discounts on the most popular items for that holiday.  This week is perfect for stocking up many items, even everyday items.

Coupon shoppers are always looking for the "double dip."  They want to have a discount from the store, and a discount from the manufactuer at the same time.  When this occurs, a coupon shopper will see 50% savings on the goods.  A standard coupon is usually 25% of the cost of a product, and a good sale is usually 25% cost reduction on the price of the product.

During a special sale week, like during a holiday week, we often see a higher discount on the products.  If the store gives a 30-35% discount, and we use a 25% coupon value, we will see higher than average savings.  So this is the time to stock up on those items our families love.

This is also a good time to take a look at everyday items and really plan out how many you can stock up before the next big sale.  Items like condiments, or main cooking ingredients that are shelf stable.  Olives, pimentos, sugar, dried spices, and paper goods top the list of everyday items that go on sale during holiday weeks.

The very best coupon shoppers will order some coupons a week before the holdiay sale week, then they will have the highest chance of making good matches.  It's not hard to predict what will be on sale, just look at an ad from last year.  The internet has lots of sale flyers posted on many boards from last year. Take a look at the brands and plan accordingly.  The prices will probably change, but you can bet on hamburgers for the 4th of July, and pumpkin pie filling for Thanksgiving.  Count on shimp for New Years, and  Cool whip for Christmas.

Our family knows that we make holiday weeks a double shop week.  We have our usual weekly grocery shopping, and we then shop extra for the upcoming weeks while the prices are low and the coupons are heavy.  Planning your 'Holiday to Holiday" shopping will save you money, and you will have a much fuller cabinet for the next several weeks at home.

Teaching the Family About Time and Coupons

We have been coupon shoppers for many years.  We started clipping back when my third child was born, and I decided to stay home with the kids.  That was an interesting time in my life!  The babies were filling my days with joy and chores, and it didn't take too long to realize that no one was filling my wallet anymore.

Once we got used to the new budget, we knew something had to change with our grocery shopping.  As I started looking into coupons I was immediately discouraged.  I remember going to my computer and searching for our favorite brands.  Most of what I typed into the search bar showed no coupons.  I couldn't figure out how coupon users really made it happen.

Couponing is not fast.  It seems like it should be a fast thing.  See a coupon, clip, claim, that's it.  Yet couponing is about planning, waiting, and securing your deals in a smart way.  It takes a good 90 days to feel like you are actually saving money.  Yes, there are those rare deals where you know you're buying baby food, and you suddenly have an awesome Beechnut coupon and Beechnut sale.  True savings, are about saving on all your groceries, not just a few items.

Now, I generally will use 20 savings coupons in a transaction.  Sometimes, it's more coupons, sometimes it's less. I never shop without saving 25%, and I try to save 50% on my entire cart.  At this point, I'm sure you're wanting to know what changed.  It was just time.  Your favorite brand may not be in this week's paper, on online this week, or on sale in the store this week.  It takes a bit of time to figure out what your "hot list" of brands includes, and then watch and wait for the coupon and the sale.

Time allows you to pick up multiples when you see a sale, and pick up multiples if there is a smoking hot sale.  Time also allows you to keep track of pricing.  You will need time to teach your self and your family about being patient, and planning out your meals and even snacks.  When you are buying a 3 month supply of ice cream, believe me, the whole family has to be on board and know how to ration those cones.

We've been a coupon family for quite a long time.  If you're new to couponing, this would be a good time to spend in our blog archives.  I've been working for County Market for 8 years and have the blog entries to prove it!  Any question you have about phone apps, rebates, planning a grocery list, etc we have here on this blog for you.  My best advice for new coupon users is to stick with it, and give yourself a little time.

6 Things You MUST Know About Rebates

Rebates are the icing on the cake.  We watch the sales, we clip the coupons, and we stockpiled the goods.  The very last step is to file a Rebate.  These can add another layer of savings to users.  As I mentioned last week, we recently moved.  I’m thinking that an extra $100 each month would come in handy. So step number 1, is to look for some rebates to use over the next 90 days.

Some rebates are for goods only.  The Kimberly Clark rebates, the PG rebates are good examples.  These dictate which brands qualify for money back by mail.  These are usually good for $15-$20 on a purchase of $50 or more.  Not bad if you can stockpile, use coupons and hit a sale.  By the time you add these discounts up it’s often over 75% savings.
Then there are the alcohol rebates.  These still confuse people.  How do I know?  My sister called.  She has been listening to me tell her about rebates for 3 years, and she just got it last week.
1. Alcohol rebates are for FOOD not liquor.  They offer you a rebates on purchases of meat, produce, cheese, salty snacks etc.
2. When you file the rebate, it matters where you live (address requesting the rebate)  not where you purchase your groceries.
3. Some rebates are High dollar rebates.  This means that they offer a high value to the amount you need to purchase.  For example, one out now says Get $20 on any $50 grocery purchase.  That is high dollar, because it’s 40% on the purchase of any groceries.
4. You need a qualified receipt.  That means from a well known grocery store, like County Market.  Bob’s corner market isn’t a good idea.  The store logo must be on the receipt, The store address, date and time of purchase must be on the receipt.
5. You will be asked to circle the Regular price of the items.  Here is why CM receipts are best.  If we are running a sale on ground beef, and it’s regularly $6.50, and you paid $3.50 you will get credit for the full $6.50.  So let’s say you buy $50 in ground beef, yet pay $30 out of pocket, you’ll get $20 from the rebate, you just saved 80%.  That’s fantastic savings.
6. Some offers are NO alcohol required.  Missouri customers. Please get your rebate forms and start getting money back.  If there is no alcohol portion, it’s all refunded.  Missouri shoppers should be getting 75% of their groceries free all the time.

Here are some places to look online for more rebate forms:

Hot Coupon World  You have to set up an account to converse with those who have forms to trade.  Once you have an account, just follow this rebates only board until you see something you can use.  I find that North Carolina traders are great for Missouri buyers.  I live in MO, and NC has the same offers.  If you are in IL there are 28 states that will have the same offers you have.

Ebay  Here is a search link I set up so you can see how I do it.  I search "Beer rebates" and this is what pops up.  If you want to narrow it down add "IL" Or "MO"  or "IN" to your search.

Lynns Coupons and Rebates  She has everything.  PG by mail forms, liquor forms, nbpr forms and general items.  She runs this small business form her home in FL and does a great job of trading as well.  So if you decide you want forms for free, pick up extras to trade for credit on account.  You can follow her fb page too.

Online Coupon Printing Facts Every Coupon User Should Know

Bricks coupons are the most printed online coupons and the easiest way to build your coupon stash.  One of the questions I commonly get is about Bricks coupons, or printable coupons found on a website that are not actually on Coupons.com  These are coupons that a manufacturer wants you to visit their site to print, and does not want included in the 200+ that are available directly on Coupons.com.  Coupons.com provides products and services utilizing our core coupon technology. Our their secure technology gives clients tight control over the number  of coupons distributed, which helps to limit redemption.

Distribution Control

One of the reasons these exist is for the control of the distributions.  It makes good sense that a vendor would want to count the number of coupons being issued.  All limits are device based.  The limit works per device, like your computer.  You can print two per computer.  These limits are enforced for the entire coupons.com network.

The Coupon Printer

Before consumers print their first coupon from the systems, they must install the Coupon Printer, an industry-standard browser plug-in. Unlike cookie-based controls, removing and reinstalling the Coupon Printer does not affect its security settings. Moreover, a coupon never appears on the consumer's screen. Instead, it is sent directly to their printer, to prevent duplication of the coupon. The Coupon Printer also provides each coupon with barcodes that can be scanned at the point of sale.  There is no way to print coupons without the plug in being downloaded to your computer.  It’s the essential part of the counting process.

Each Coupon is Unique

Each printed coupon carries a unique ID that is encrypted in a 2-D PDF417 barcode, enabling each coupon to be traced from print to redemption. All Coupons.com Incorporated coupons can be authenticated using this unique code. This unique ID also can be used to detect counterfeit or altered coupons. Cashiers are often looking at these codes when reviewing your coupon just to be sure they are not duplicated or altered in any way.

Where to get them
We list Printable Bricks coupons in the Saturday blog often. These are the ones found on manufacturer’s sites.  I do not list ones found on Coupons.com, I assume you can find those weekly as you need them.  The ones listed are direct links instead of vendor landing platforms.  Meaning, I’ll send you directly to the Print page.  I will often list a coupon like this:

Save $1 on 1 Swanson Chicken

(Bricks print 2x)

This will let you know before you click on the link that it is direct, and that you should always click the link twice and print your limit of coupons.
Resets

Once a coupon has reached it’s limited exposure, it will expire.  Often new users will think a coupon “Will always be there to print”  or “I can print it tomorrow from work”  and that is not the case.  Many times a Hot coupon will reach it’s limit  within hours of being available online.

7 Summer Coupon Tips

Couponing in the summer months is a mixed joy. There are tons of great offers for picnic foods, and convenience foods.  These can add up to quite a bit of money.  These are also temptations!  Especially for kids.  And since we're talking about kids, they are out for the summer and can really mess up your shopping plan.  Not only do they eat more in the summer months, but they tend to be along for the shopping since school is out.

Summer coupon shopping can run a bit smoother with some tips.

1.  Make your grocery list before you hit the store.  It will allow you to cut down on impulse buys and stick to a plan.  Check your sale ad before you go, and gather all your printed and phone offers before you hit the store.  Sales Ad Preview

2.  Use the Tuesday preview options for sales flyers and deals.  If you have that day to do your planning you will also have time to gather those hot or hard to find coupons online.

3.  Try to have tasks for your kids while shopping.  This will keep them occupied and busy so they are not adding items to your cart. An easy task is to ask them to find two products, maybe a Kellogg's cereal and a General Mills cereal and tell you which is the better buy.  It will take them awhile to check prices and sizes.

4.   Order extra inserts.  You can order newspaper inserts online.  These are full not cut coupons that you can use over several weeks.  Having a full coupon stash helps you to be ready when you need the savings.  Online inserts

5.  Load your phone up with all the important phone apps! There are several that can save you money.  If you save $5 with each app, you'll be seeing significant savings over the year.  Phone apps operate as rebates so these are additional savings to your coupons.  Ibotta  Mobisave  Checkout 51 MyCountyMarket

6.  Review all the rebates for your state.  Some states have fantastic summer offers for you with little or no purchase required.  These can add up, and who doesn't need a little extra money showing up when it's time to send the kids back to school? HCW Rebates

7.  Plan to extend your food supply.  Use your cabinets to the max, your freezer space, and stock up on the loss leaders of summer.  Food is cheaper!  So plan to buy your weekly groceries, and a few staples for later.  It may not seem like a lot of money, but $15 worth of staples picked up a half off the regular price means you have $360 worth of foods in the fall ready to go.

The Essential Apps for Saving Money

Do you want to save money at the grocery store?  Really save money? Like consistently save $20 a week?  Or $100 in a month's time?  Or would you like to save more than $1000 real dollars in a year?  If you do, then you need to establish a new savings habit. It starts by having all the necessary tools and apps.

It will take about 90 days to get to a point where you always remember to check your phone app before going to the grocery store.  We have spending habits that work the same as our savings habits.  Yet, this is the future of coupon clipping.  It's time to  serious about saving money with your phone and computer.  You will need to have your apps loaded and clipped so you can redeem all your digital dollars.

Yo may be wondering if it's worth it.  It is worth it!  There are hundreds of offers on apps like Ibotta for products you purchase each week.  HUNDREDS.  Your My County Market App has items that are not commonly found on traditional coupon sites.  Look for produce coupons on both apps. I've saved on tomatoes, bananas, even garlic.  I have been buying salad kits for the family weekly off the County Market app. You definitely can save extra money with the apps, no doubt about it.

You'll need to establish this habit so that it becomes part of your routine.  To do this, you need to connect it with another habit you already have established.  For example, is there a habit you have on Wednesday that allows you a few minutes to prep your phone?  For me, it's Wednesday morning after the kids are set to school.  I have a window of about 20 minutes before my day begins.  This is when I make a cup of coffee and check my daily to do list.  This is already my routine, so I'm going to tie this new behavior to an old one.

After coffee, and with my to do list review, I will click on the apps and put digital coupons in my wallet.  It will only take a couple minutes, but it will be set before I reach the store.  That's it!  It's on Wednesday, the first day of shopping week, and when offers are renewed.  It fits with my already scheduled routine.  And, it will save me money and become a new habit.

Wednesday is your best bet for establishing a new savings habit.  Try to find an already existing habit on this day you do every week.  Look for habits like picking up  kids from soccer practice, lunch plans, favorite TV show schedule.  Before you know it, your app shopping will be second nature.
