The Organized Couponer

Each of us has our own method of keeping organized.  Sometimes it helps to try new tricks to keeping those coupons neat and orderly.

1. Custom Tabs.  I have found that fewer is better.  The more tabs you have the more cross over exists.  Keep it simple.  Find 12-14 main categories that will cover your needs.  We keep tab listings on the blog for easy access.
2. Assign an area for coupons that are not filed.  I have a place for coupons I know I want to redeem when I get to the store.  I have a section right in front of that for while I’m shopping.  As I put the product in the cart, the coupon moves from “Want to redeem”  to the “Redeem” section.  Remember Hands free Shopping!
3. I have a section for all my unwanted or trade coupons for club.  When I get to club, I just pull out the pile and start passing them.  You can do the same if you do not attend club, and just drop them off at customer service to be sorted for the public bins.
4. Use color.   One of our group uses colored cards to flag coupons she doesn’t want to forget about, or she likes to be able to find fast.  Any colored cards will do.  Neon cards are on sale for back to school.  Pick up a pack for $1.  Put Pink by items that expire in 30 days, Yellow in 60 and Green in 90.
5. You can also highlight coupons.  The highlighting doesn’t invalidate the offer.  You’ll be able to see details you want to remember later.  Things like, “with purchase of both cookies and milk.”  It will help with keeping the small print in line.
6. Eliminate what you will NEVER use.  I won’t be buying baby goods, so those tabs are out!  No need for to file or sort something you will not be needing.
7. Add anything that seems to omitted for your needs.  One of our gals buys lots of Atkins only.  So she created a category just for Atkins foods.
8. Items to keep near your coupons:  Scissors, pens, highlighter, calculator, extra cards, paper clips, tape, stapler.
