A Hunting We Will Go!

Ah!  The thrill of the hunt!  Time to retrain our senses to finding all those great deals printed on bags and boxes in the store.   Training your eyes to find extra deals on shelves takes a little bit of practice.  I’ve been picking up cereal with my coupons and for every 2 General Mills, getting a free movie ticket.

Since my family loves a free movie this is a great way to save some entertainment expenses while snacking.  Cereal is $3, coupon is $.50 each, for two boxes of cereal (net $5.00) I get a free movie ticket worth $7.50 Yeah for me, Jack Reacher I’m on my way.

I like these deals because they do not require Stamps.  They are not rebates, yet give you money and give you free products.  The key is finding the offers in the store.  There are lots of pretty marketing graphics that lure the eye.  Look for any that use the words “Free”  or “Gas”  or “Rewards”  those are the ones that actually give you something.

Look for starbursts.  Those are the graphics that add a small burst of color, usually red or yellow to the corner of a package and say, “For more details see back.”  When you start seeing the starbursts you’ll find deals.

Let’s have  a class trip. Right now!  Split up your club into groups of two or three.  Go look for special marked boxes.  Then come back as a group and report what you have found.  Sharing will help everyone find more deals in the stores.  Places to look should include:

Frozen
Pharmacy
Meat
Cereal, Cereal, Cereal
Chips and Snacks
Liquor Department
Refrigerated section:  Juice, Pillsbury brands
Cleaning

Places you should check immediately also include special displays.  We are in post season football, which for me means free standing shippers of snack foods.  Check those shipper over with a keen eye.  Look for coupons or rebates attached to the units.
